PROSPER Network Event in Magdeburg
On June 14, the Chair of European Studies at Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg hosted the latest PROSPER Network Event, titled “Constitutional Demands and Dynamics in EU Fiscal and Economic Governance.” The event was part of the university’s Long Night of the Sciences, offering both academic exchange and public engagement.
In a wide-ranging and insightful discussion, members of the Jean Monnet Network PROSPER examined how the EU’s system of multilevel governance is responding to the political, social, economic, and legal challenges of reforming the EU budget.
The evening featured a public keynote lecture by Dr. Tiziano Zgaga (LMU Munich), “Global Challenges for the European Union: How Are We Going to Pay for Them?”, addressing the financial sustainability of the EU’s response to global crises.
As part of this PROSPER conversation, Dr. Zgaga also presented and discussed themes from his forthcoming book, "The Fiscal Governance of the European Union: Overcoming the Stability Paradigm?", in a dialogue with Professor Eva G. Heidbreder. The book traces the transformation of EU fiscal rules over the past 25 years—from rigid stability-driven models to more flexible, adaptive frameworks.

This event marks one in a series of 12 network events, each hosted by a partner institution of the PROSPER Network throughout the project. The next stop: Rotterdam.
