Multilevel Governance in Europe

Prof. Dr Eva Heidbreder, head of the Chair of Multilevel Governance in Europe at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, has been awarded a Jean Monnet Chair. The Jean Monnet Chair at the OvGu is called IMUDE - Interactive Multilevel Democracy and deals with the democratic design of the EU at all levels of government.

Previously, Prof. Dr. Heidbreder held a junior professorship at Heinrich-Heine University Düsseldorf and visiting professorships at the University of Konstanz, Humboldt University and Freie Universität Berlin. After completing her doctorate at the European University Institute in Florence, she worked at the Free University and the Hertie School of Governance Berlin. Prof Dr. Eva Heidbreder completed her European Studies at the University of Osnabrück and the University of North London, as well as in a postgraduate programme at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Vienna.

Her research interests include effective and legitimate EU policy-making, horizontally networked EU policy implementation, and civil society participation in the EU, which includes specific issues such as the shaping of Brexit. She is also active as a spokesperson for various working groups and sections in national and international professional associations, such as the German and International Political Science Associations.

Eva Heidbreder teaches core courses in BA and MA European Studies at the OVGU, promoting international exchange and networking between students and foreign students as well as practitioners through field trips and invitations. She regularly lectures in further political education at home and abroad.
