Structure and Content of the BA in European Studies

Primarily, the objectives of this study programme are to convey:

  • Basic knowledge about the genesis and state of political, social and economic interrelations in Europe
  • Basic disciplinary knowledge of history, social sciences and economics
  • Basics of academic work and methodical analysis of interdiciplinary problems
  • Language skills in either one or two foreign languages ((From the range of certified language courses offered at the Language Centre*)

    *as far as exams can be taken: currently available: English, Spanish, French, Italian, Russian.

Analytical and methodological goals of the programme are:

  • Imparting an interdisciplinary understanding on the basis of well-founded training in historical, economic and social science work techniques and methods.
  • In-depth training of methods in one of the disciplines involved, which enables an adequate scientific discussion in the BA thesis and qualifies students for subsequent MA programs and job market requirements.

Further competencies:

  • Intercultural competence through the acquisition of foreign language skills as well as a mandatory semester abroad
  • Practical professional experience through the compulsory internship
  • Organizational skills and taking responsibility through the individual choosing of a focus area, the organization of their interdisciplinary studies and the preparation and follow-up of a semester abroad and an internship.

Qualifications and career options

Graduates of our European Studies bachelor programme are prepared to work in fields in which profound knowledge of social processes and political developments in the context of European culture and economy. The economic part of the programme, which can be extended if desired, prepares our students additionally for working in the free market economy.
