StreitBar Event "Ist Politik noch attraktiv für die Bürgerinnen und Bürger?", with Dr. Johannes Gerken
On November 7th, 2023, a new edition of the discussion format StreitBar will take place. In this public debate, local politics, political science and political psychology will be represented on the stage of the StreitBar "Ihr da oben, wir da unten - Ist Politik noch attraktiv für die Bürgerinnen und Bürger?" ( (in English: "You up there, us down there - Is politics still attractive to citizens?")
Speakers will discuss the causes and consequences of the increasing alienation of citizens from politics:
- Bert Knoblauch, mayor of the city of Schönebeck/Elbe since 2014.
- Dr. Johannes Gerken, Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, Institute for Political Science - European Studies,
- Prof. Dr. Thomas Kliche, Magdeburg Stendal University of Applied Sciences, Department of Applied Human Sciences, Political and Social Psychology.
- Tanja Gräber, University of Magdeburg, Psychology Student.
What does it mean for democracy when acceptance for political decisions made declines, citizens withdraw into the private sphere and the broad masses no longer feel any desire to participate politically as a matter of course?
